Reaching far beyond CFL light bulbs and planting a tree, Environmental Change-Making reveals how to make your greening efforts potent, contagious, and lasting.

Learn how to cultivate community connections through grassroots environmental solutions. Experience the success story of a group that is doing it!

A huge part of change-making is creating a shift within our hearts, minds, and spirits. Environmental Change-Making addresses the spiritual roots behind earth-wiser action. The approach is inclusive, applicable to faith communities and to secular groups.

Solving massive environmental problems like global warming, biocapacity, and the end of cheap oil, takes much more than a mere switch to “Brand Green.” It takes a fundamental change in our deepest understanding of ourselves and how we fit into the ecosystems of the planet. Environmental Change-Making explains environmental paradigm change:   What it really means ... How it unfolds ... And how to get it started in your local community.

Joanne Poyourow and The Reverend Peter H. Rood, Jr., are the co-founders of the Environmental Change-Makers, a community group in Los Angeles. The Reverend Rood is the rector of
Holy Nativity Episcopal Church in the Westchester area of
Los Angeles. He is involved in social activism and interested in interfaith dialog. Mrs. Poyourow is the author of Legacy: A Story of Hope for a Time of Environmental Crisis and numerous environmental articles. Her work encourages people to visualize and step into an earth-wiser future.

Author biographies:

Environmental Change-Making tells the story of a Los Angeles community group – a partnership between secular environmentalists and members of a small neighborhood parish. In its first two years of existence, the Environmental Change-Makers group created extraordinary waves within their neighborhood and within the West Los Angeles environmental movement. The group is founded on the concept of a positive outlook. Rather than focusing on environmental problems, the Change-Makers group focuses on solutions. In particular, they emphasize grassroots actions any citizen can do.

Environmental Change-Making
shares the story of what makes this little group work. The book outlines the steps any organization can take to cultivate environmental change. It offers prospective leaders the benefit of the Los Angeles group’s experiences, together with some of the background theory on environmental sustainability.

Environmental Change-Making is filled with specific references, examples and stories pulled directly from the meetings of the Environmental Change-Makers. Even if you live half-way across the country, you can experience the flavor of these inspiring meetings!
