  Emerson Avenue Community Garden

The new Emerson Avenue Community Garden on Emerson Avenue at 80th Place blends a school garden with a traditional, plot-style community garden and a "pocket park" community gathering space. The garden is being installed via a series of community work days. (More)

Harvest Westchester

Got too much fruit?  We can help!  Bring your surplus zucchini and lemons to the Community Garden at Holy Nativity any Thursday.  You can swap with other local neighbors and we'll take the excess to needy local families via LAX Food Pantry.  (More)

Home Improvement Group

Are you interested in participating in a neighborhood home improvement group? The concept is simple: A group of neighbors gets together on a regular basis and rotates among their homes, working together on projects designated by the household of the moment. Each household receives the benefit of the old adage "Many hands make light work," often finishing in a single day projects that the household would have spent weeks—or significant labor costs—to complete. If we have enough interest, we'll set one up.  (Express interest)

Ballona LETSystem
local bartering network

Welcome to the good ole-fashioned ways of swapping favors with local neighbors!  The internet and the computer make it a whole lot easier to find what you need.  Through our local bartering system you can swap goods and services with community members and gain credits in exchange.  You can use the credits to get what you need without cash.  (More)

Discussion groups

Where do you find like-minded people to share ideas like these?  Online, you might try our TTLA discussion group.  (link)  In person, come to any of our events in Westchester (ECM calendar) or events around the greater L.A. area (TLA calendar) and join in the fun!  In particular, events marked "Transition Salon" are ideal for exploring these ideas with like-minded others.

Group purchasing

*** Decolate snails***

If you would like to be part of a group purchase of decolate snails, see information here.  (April 10, 2011)

ECM has coordinated group purchases of bare root fruit trees. This project brought 21 new fruit trees to our local neighborhood in 2008, 27 in 2009, and 38 new fruit trees in 2010. ECM has coordinated group purchases of rainwater harvesting barrels, and may offer future group purchases in accordance with group interest.
